GOOD SOLDIER

(A Poetic Justice Photomontage)
The Ambitious Delusions of George Bush and David Petraeus

We now learn that General David Petraeus fancies himself a Dwight Eisenhower for the 21st century.

According to a report in London's Independent newspaper by the reliable Middle East observer Patrick Cockburn, the U.S. military viceroy in Iraq would like very much to return from his mission and -- like the Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and of North Atlantic Treaty Organization in its aftermath -- mount a bid for the White House.

Petraeus has apparently been so open in expressing his "long-term interest in running for the US presidency" that Sabah Khadim, a former senior adviser at Iraq's Interior Ministry who worked closely with the general in Baghdad, recalls, "I asked him if he was planning to run in 2008 and he said, 'No, that would be too soon'."

The mouth of the good soldier,
The stern jaw of the general,
The small particles of human dust
That move between them;
Better things than war
To the rotten film of floating flesh.

The bastard truth, in its last throes,
Had no teeth to gnaw at death
To release its harrowed grip,
And deceit had honed its razors
Slicing truth to its mortal nub,
Veracity fell out the bloody center
Uncorking the gushing liquid
now thickly oozing out of man.

This that moves us and machine
Is what drives the engine of betrayal.
It is not man.
It is not beast.
It is not breath.
At birth we suckle its oily nipple
Until we desire it more than food-
This; our liquid birth of machinery.

It is with that in mind and nothing else
That the stern jawed general let loose his guns.
With precision, from years of training,
He nailed his target, truth, between the eyes
And it fell back calling out a futile "help,"
But rescue would not be forthcoming,
It too had been felled.

Death stands now before them both
And places his fluttering lips close,
“Come. Join me now. You shall see
the horror within the mortal’s eyes
when, in the dark, you greet them.”

THE VIRGIN AND THE SEASONED

Bush just playing us with 'troop withdrawal'

Olbermann: "President Bush told troops in Iraq some of them may be able to come home. To a country dying of thirst, the president seemed to vaguely promise a drink from a full canteen -- a promise predicated on the assumption that he is not lying. Yet you are lying, Mr. Bush. Again. But now, we know why. "

"...Everything you said about Iraq yesterday, and everything you will say, is a deception, for the purpose of this one cynical, unacceptable, brutal goal: perpetuating this war indefinitely."

THE VIRGIN AND THE SEASONED

Right after the sky had seemingly dumped all its gloom upon this world
And sunny days lay ahead of us… some of us… maybe some lucky son of the rich;
Just when the world could use some talk of peace and healing of wounds
And unruffled reflection allowed to descend… or shine… or sidle between dry lips;
O! That this world could make use of silence or a hushed and soothing reverie
From the heavy chains knotted `round our breath! The tongues are corroded over
With idols and liars and hordes of impish drones and toadies and criminals;
A fine mess we’ve made of it! A fine mess we’re into now; a world in disarray!
And someone’s going to stop breathing tonight! A father’s going to cry, kill or pray
As someone else will sleep far away from his grief. Sleep roundly without sorrow.
The moving sand and running streets and flying steel pilfering the radiance
Will send a messenger, a virgin warrior, with tidings of community and expectation,
Only to return with news of a lifeless planet with lifeless inhabitants; dull and jaded.
Another more seasoned warrior will then be sent with reports and bags of gold,
Only to return with news of an insensible planet with insensible and terrified patrons.
Then it will be time to send the General, a gallant, fearless stag of impeccable servitude
Armed only with the kings dangling gaze hard upon his back. The news is good!
The planet breathes! The previous, now lifeless dispatches were two-faced traitors…

Right after the sky had seemingly dumped all its gloom upon this world
And sunny days lay ahead of us… some of us… maybe some lucky son of the rich;
Just when the world could use some talk of peace and healing of wounds
And unruffled reflection allowed to descend… or shine… or sidle between dry lips;
A command was given to cease all opposition and to run crying for shelter!
Come warble your dissent! Whimper in anger! Snivel in disbelief and comfortless drivel
Until the soil trembles with your quaking of our liberty that is the world’s torment
For the virgin and the seasoned have been silenced and all that remains is monstrous!
O! If the rivers could but sing of this time they’d flood the world in sorrowful verse.

BOTTOMLESS APPETITE

Then at last the wolves began to devour one another
They ripped into the other’s flesh relentlessly
They said nothing of their brotherhood
Nothing of humanity
They said nothing
Just engraved flesh to bone

And to their loved ones
It was told they had become ill
Or a roadside trap had sunk their haunches
A martyr for the cause
Blossoms of more beautiful death moving over their shoulders
And to the country wolves
The safe
The listless
The counterfeit freedom lovers
To them it all seemed
A natural progression of the ferocious world
Enviously seeking their freedoms
Their riches, their dreams

Soon the blossoms wilted
And a rancid stench drifted over the Sunday service
Until their worship turned outward
And pounced upon its host

POROUS

(SEN. JOSEPH LIEBERMAN (D), CONNECTICUT: The war is not lost in Iraq. In fact, now American Iraqi security forces are winning. The enemy is on the run in Iraq. But, here in — in Congress, in Washington, we seem to be, or some — some members seem to be on the run, chased, I fear, by public opinion polls.)

COOPER: Is the enemy on the run in Iraq, Michael (Ware)?

WARE: No, certainly not. And I think we need to be aware that it’s enemies. I mean, America doesn’t face just one opponent in this country, but a whole multitude, many of whom are becoming stronger, the longer the U.S. occupation here, or presence here, in Iraq continues. So, unfortunately, I’m afraid that Senator Lieberman has taken an excursion into fantasy.

porous

O warriors in the red gleaming grove
with voices like that of stone…

Heroes beneath the noisy rubble of human rage
with breath like that of decomposing joy…

Brothers and sisters at rest under the darkened sky
with an ashen vigor like that of midnight fog...

Half–lived and fruitless toward your end,
rise up and speak!

Bring forth your will from beneath the crushed stone
and inform these thieves and frauds they’re wrong!

O bright mourning lifts no truth from this;
our dying soil, no glee pours forth its liquid mouth...

Peace, if it is to come, shall enter upon your spoils,
and those lofting fantasy upon you and your brethren,
rejected, leaving your trace floating over the world…

PLAN B

(Ben Heine - Cartoons)

Small brown rodents scurry across the shell of the span.
A broken and weeping child lies upon the makeshift bed,
And at the shattered window next to the door, the slumped
Tears of a torn fabric drop in the wind.
Soon the door to that other noisy time will thrash and split
And the barrels of the sun will enter without knocking
And demand of them a fresh, uncluttered room.
(Surely the wave of fabric will startle them.)
After a rather lengthy and determined conversation,
The barrels will find reverie in their clatter
And breathe a sigh of relief at their escape.
Across the alleyway a woman seizes her bread and her child
And runs frightened into the abandoned street.
Looking up toward her sister’s shattered casement,
She calls out to her.

The sky rolls in its troops and the moon calls forth its howl.
A new landscape moves in as the rodents groom their nails
And hone their teeth for a grand feast upon the streets.
Tonight will be no different than the last; the dark queen
Will issue her edict to the fangs of night and forth they shall come,
armed and invisible.
With precision they’ll carve the brief respite of silence like a sword
And yet another shattered child will consume the fabric.

FETID WAR

US commander denies Iraq failure

The leading US military commander in Iraq has told US senators that Baghdad could be secured with less than the 21,500 extra troops being sent as part of a new strategy to end the sectarian violence.General George Casey also denied that US policy had failed in Iraq despite heavy criticism from the Armed Services Committee.

Casey told the committee on Thursday that he had recommended just two additional brigades would be needed for the Iraq capital, rather than the five brigades that have been ordered to Iraq as part of George Bush's new plan.

The new strategy will see more than 21,500 soldiers added to the 138,000-strong US force in Iraq and deployed mainly in Baghdad.

At Least 62 Killed in Iraqi Violence
By ROBERT H. REID Associated Press Writer

A pair of suicide bombers detonated explosives Thursday among shoppers in a crowded outdoor market in a Shiite city south of Baghdad, killing at least 45 people and wounding 150, police said. Bombs and a mortar attack killed at least 17 others in both Shiite and Sunni areas of Baghdad.
Overall, more than 100 people were killed or found dead across the country, reflecting the ongoing wave of sectarian and insurgency bloodletting as the U.S. military gears up for a major security operation to stem the violence.
The biggest attack took place in the center of Hillah, a city about 60 miles south of Baghdad. Police and witnesses said the two bombers strolled into the Maktabat market about 6 p.m. when the area was packed with shoppers buying food for the evening meal.

Dark Clouds Gather on the Distant Horizon:
The World Awaits George W. Bush's Attack on Iran
Alexander - February 1st, 2007
Dark clouds gather on the distant horizon - their presence trumpets the undeniable reality that something sinister is coming this way. As the light of truth and reality fades from the nation's political consciousness, between the flashes of lies and deceit is seen the foreboding outline of vultures awaiting tragedy and their chance to feast on the death it is certain to deliver.

What necessitates our despicable failings?
Brings neither eye nor ear toward peace?
Slings us down instead of skyward?
Hurls love into the decaying bowels?

WAR! Fetid war is bringing the world to famine!
Neither kings nor subjects are nourished in wars grand feast.

The slender, flag-wrapped youth are starved of life
While round leaders drip and devour their stale plans
Leaving veteran men of reason drooling on themselves
To gibber-jabber-dribble maddening absurdities!

O! Goddamnit we recognize these things! We know them!

Complicity’s the pungent slope of life’s interment.
This; our indifference, coats the angels in fresh blood,
Their malleable wings dripping in dreadfulness;
They are massive, undulating and beautiful arcing things
Conjuring up the world’s looming storm.

Fetid war is bringing the world to famine!
To hell with it and all the Goddamned drooling cowards!

Come angel! Thrust thy immense wings down upon them
Smashing their dread-filled plans...
And feed the world.

MARK MY WORDS

READ THE POEM +/-

We, the masses, to your speech of deceit and surging,
Do add this depressing defeat, your defeat, our shame.
We, to your god awful folly, pack up our freedoms end
And after this clang, the unfurling of our disenchantment
Of warring with terror and our terror with warring,
Find in your wanton flesh the venue for our resurrection.

"Twenty-thousand" rolls off your tongue as if it were nectar;
The sweet liquid of Greek god's and goddesses' everlasting,
Thus, above your rotting skull we’ve fired one over the bow
Landing two simple words of warning, “No more”,
And if you do not end your swaggering murderer's charade
Your hope shall rest only upon the swiftness of your escape.
