I SERVED MY COUNTRY IN FOREIGN LANDS...

At whose behest?
Were they certain of your brilliance and aim,
assured that your bullet would find its flesh?
Who sent you there with gun and grenade?
Did they know that you were a skilled assassin?

Who brought you to such hunger?
A profound reverence for the motherland,
or payment for her freedom's wonder?
Can you even recognize her, is she the same
as before you sent another soul to grave?

Who moved you to it?
Some grand leader, father, teacher, God?
Did they too have your hardy thirst for war?
Did they follow you there, to the foreign pit,
into the fray, ready to exterminate their foe?

Who sent you to kill?
Did they ready your legs for such a slaughter,
prepare you to painfully die for your country?
Did your victims go staggering alone into the swill
or did they put their filthy mouths to the lips of war?

TIME SLIP

READ THE POEM +/-
(Time Slip by Ben Heine - Cartoons)

TIME SLIP

To achieve what war cannot;
Dislodge the facts.
Usher in hope.
Create breath.

To create what the warrior cannot;
Yielding dreams.
Lasting peace.
Earnest love.

To carry the lode that liars cannot.
Words of wisdom.
Grains of trust.
The truth.

It is not an issue of one knowing the truth of war;
But rather the ability of one not to wage it.

WAITING ON THE RAIN

It is time to bring `em home.
Time to call it what it is,
What it's always been
And will remain.

It is time to bring `em home.
Occasion is now not later.
Later's mere deceit
Waiting on the rain.

It is time to bring `em home.
Bomb no more, unlock,
Unload their weapon
And to us return.

It is time to bring `em home.
To terminate our mourning,
To heal our grievance
And say lesson learned.

It is time to bring `em home.
That our love might come
Yet again upon the dream
And embrace our soul.

It is time to bring `em home.
To air the people’s voice
As one of peace and joy
And unite the breathing fold.

It is time to bring `em home.
Time to call it what it is,
What it's always been
And will remain.

It is time to bring `em home.
End our hold upon Iraq.
Later's just a parade
Waiting on the rain

One of the Many Reasons to Withdraw

IT IS NOT ENOUGH

"I am a veteran of WW II, I served my country as well as my fellow Veterans. I, along with my wife, need our SS and Medicare to survive. Cutting the budget would put our lives into a great deal of hardship. We are senior aged. At Pearl Harbor I was ready and able to put my life on the line for my country. Sir, I don't believe this administration has the moral right to repay the seniors like myself with cutting our means of survival by cutting the budget."
—George, NC

It is not enough that you served with honor
It is not enough that you died for the cause
It is only enough that you are most willing
To die over and over until death has no loss
`til it finds passage through the vein of self
Torturing you through its very pounding

How dreaded and parched is your termination
How outrageous and bloodied damp are theirs

How might we know the horror of your plight
Without looking deeper than the beggar’s eyes
Without examining infinitely the empty corpse
Without narrowing our glance at rib and tongue

It is not enough that we serve a mighty tower
It is not enough that we die at its engulfing us

How might we know when it has come `round
Come to collect our very bones for the sacrifice
Will it place marks upon our shoulder, forehead

It is not enough that you served with solid honor
How might we know without ownership of you
That you gave up everything of you to save her
How might we know unable then to see the person

It is not enough that you, sir, were willing to die
It is not enough to lay claim to that and that alone
It is only enough that you are one most willing
Death to repeat within you and you evaporate
To die again and again and again and...
